TRACKING IRMA: AFTERNOON UPDATE Good afternoon everyone! Irma made landfall this morning in the FL keys and is currently barreling towards Marcos Island to make mainland landfall. As we are drawing closer and closer we are beginning to have higher res model come within better range of tomorrow's impacts therefore we have a bit of fine tuning to do to our most recent discussion. / / LATEST INFO Irma is a category 3 hurricane with winds up to 120mph and a central pressure of 936mb. Current position is sitting sitting less than 10 miles off the coast of Marcos Island. / / WHERE IS IT GOING It's nearly the same as before with just a further nudge west. UPDATED - SEVERE THREAT INCREASING *[Please refer to the latest forecast that has been posted as this forecast has changed since this post.]* Good evening everyone! I wanted to quickly go over yet again our threats for tomorrow as they are increasing with new data that is coming in. Again please take a moment to read through. / / THREATS Our first threat is going to come in the early morning hours from 8-9am. This threat is one im fairly worried about as the dynamics that are making up this portion of our forecast is eerily similar to the dynamics that played into the morning of the 1936 Gainesville tornado. I'm not saying that's what I think is going to happen but what i am saying is that there is the possiblity of storms forming along a lifting warm front in the early morning hours and the storms that do form could become supercells. The next threat we're going to be faced with is the main line of storms that will be arriving between 12-2pm tomorrow afternoon. This line I want to stress is going to pack a punch. It will packing in damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes. Forecasters are very confident that there will be tornadic cells that do produce tornadoes tomorrow. Our last threat will be after the line moves through, although models still continue to prog cells on the back end in NE GA i've never seen such an anomaly therefore i'm not confident on this aspect of our forecast. / / TIMING The first round will hit around 8:30am tomorrow morning. The second main line will be here around 12:30-1:30pm. The third round hits around 8pm. Folks, I want to make something very clear. There are aspects of this forecast that are tricky and that will be off. But one thing remains very clear, tomorrow could potentially be dangerous and at one level, deadly. Please heed all warnings posted tomorrow and be alert. I'll be here at all times to help you all though this. Stay Safe everyone. STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS EXPECTED MONDAY Good afternoon everyone! There's a good bit to talk about in todays update so I would encourage you all to take a couple minutes to read through as some of this information is going to be extremely important. With that said, lets dive into tomorrows threat. / / THE SET UP Currently a cold front is setting up across deep southern TX in the houston area spawning numerous tornado warnings and severe weather across that region. This line of showers and storms will quickly make eastward progress into our neck of the woods becoming a matured cold front as it moves into our area. At the same time this cold front is going to tap into rich gulf moisture and create a southerly flow over our area setting the stage for what's known as the classic "Warm Sector". / / TIMING There is going to be multiple moving parts to this forecast all with different timing so this could get a little "hairy" so lets give this a shot... In the early morning hours we're going to see a weak wedge set up into the NE sector of the state. This cool pool of air at the surface will attempt to retreat fairly quickly in the morning hours but be trapped by warm air running over the top of it. This will locally enhance the severe storm threat at places ALONG THE BOUNDARY in the morning hours around 7-9am. I'm thinking this boundary is generally going to set up anywhere between Gwinnett and White county. Second punch of storms should make their arrival around 2PM. This will be a squall line of storms that sets up. It's going to pack one heck of a punch with this line, with mainly damaging wind and hail as a threat but tornadoes becoming more and more possible. Our last threat is the trickiest of them all... As the main line moves through models are progging that since the line passes before daytime heating that we will continue to heat and thereby enhance the possiblity of a small line of storms to mainly affect NE GA. This line, if it does come to fruition, will pass through around 6-8pm. Main threats with this would be Hail and tornadoes. / / ROUND UP OF IMPACTS/THREATS So what all are we looking at tomorrow? Lets do a round up.. >Round 1: In the early morning, those storms look like they'll have a main threat of hail and tornadoes.. due to the dynamics that play into that specific event those would be our biggest threats. >Round 2: With this round you're looking at almost everything.. Im mainly thinking damaging wind and hail but tornadoes is not out of the question. I do expect that at least a storm or two will be tornado warned. Where exactly is the big question... >Round 3: This round is probably the most unknown and could easily not happen, i'm going to need more data to really be confident about this portion of our forecast. But main threats will be hail and tornadoes as well. / / SUMMARY I'll keep this really simple for those of you who just really hate reading... Hail, damaging wind, and tornadoes are all possible tomorrow through the day so just keep a device close if you're out and about while this is all going on and take the warnings seriously. Please. I will be updating as new developments come in... There are portions of this forecast that could change drastically with each model run so please stay updated over the next 48 hours. Stay Safe NE GA. FRAME (1) PICTURED: Round 1 (Showers in NE GA) FRAME (2) PICTURED: Round 2 (Line of storms) FRAME (3) PICTURED: Round 3 (Showers in NE GA) FRAME (4) PICTURED: SPC convective outlook placing us in an enhanced risk.
